I slid the hotel key card in the door slot, and the hotel room door opened. I smiled at my new bride, Lisa, and pushed the door with my shoulder, opening it widely. The San Diego, California area hotel was familiar to me, having stayed there often in the past. I already knew the general layout of the room in which we were to stay in for the weekend, but for Lisa, it was to be a new experience. I stepped in the room, and saw that everything was exactly where it was supposed to be: the king-sized bed, the big flat screen TV set, the entrance to the bathroom, and the drawn curtains.

Lisa and I had only been married for two months, our lives having crossed in rather uncommon circumstances: we are both US Army Reserve officers from the Los Angeles area.
