"Never have I ever...been to a Major League Baseball game." A chorus of boos, and everyone else had to drink. It was Chrissie's turn, always the demure one. She was smiling at the cleverness of her choice, her face lit by the glowing campfire. Everyone else's questions had been drifting in a more bawdy direction.

Six of us had gotten together for the last hurrah of summer. Autumn, actually. Next Saturday was closing day at Assateague State Park campground. The park is on the Delmarva coast and famous for its beachfront camping and wild horse herd. This had been going on for years - a week of camping in September, away from it all, after the crowds and before the holidays. Chrissie always coordinated the event, but the mix of who attended changed over the years.

I was newly divorced, so my accommodations were a tent. Harold and Kate had been high school sweethearts, and now nearly twenty years on were still married, and apparently still in love. Chrissie had never married. Joe's marriage had only lasted a couple years, and ever since then he had been working his way through ever more exotic women.
