PRELUDE

"You knew from the start what type of person I was." Zach winced as he listened to Carrie's voice come through the phone's receiver. The conversation was not going as he had hoped. "Zach, I told you when we first met that this wasn't going to be a long term arrangement."

"I know, but I thought...," Zach's voice trailed off, unable to complete the sentence.

"...that you could change me," Carrie said, finishing Zach's words. "God bless you Zach. You weren't the first man to try, but you were the only man who I truly felt connected to. Despite his feelings, Zach wondered to himself if Carrie had used this speech before.
