The Long Journey Home / Chapter 2: The Pervert

I was riding high on my Golden Globe win for my role in The Long Journey Home when I was nominated for an Academy Award for the same role. The Long Journey Home was produced by Michael Gardner, one of Hollywood's most gifted and powerful movie producers. He had the Midas touch where films were concerned and The Long Journey Home was just one in a string of his many hits.

To celebrate my nomination, I had a cocktail party at my home, and invited most of the cast and some of the crew from the movie. Unfortunately that included Michael Gardner.

I never liked the man. He was a gross looking pig of man, short, pudgy with small dark eyes and blubbery lips. I hated being alone with him because he was a dirty old man. I was forty-six at the time and he was close to twenty years my senior. He was bald on top but grew his hair long and pulled back into a ponytail. I always though he fancied himself to be like Sean Connery's character in Medicine Man except he lacked Connery's rugged good looks.

I invited him because he was rich and powerful and would feel slighted if I didn't. He'd probably do something awful in retaliation and that was the last thing I needed with my already fragile career.
