Chapter 15: The Promise

It was mid-October and the fall colors in Door County, Wisconsin were stunning. I forgot out beautiful fall could be in the colder climes. We don't have anything like it in L.A.

I bundled up because Sebastian was taking me to a fall festival in Sister Bay. The high temperature was expected to be around sixty degrees and there would probably be a cool breeze off the lake. I wore a black turtleneck sweater and jeans with a boiled wool jacket in a colorful Native American print all with comfortable black boots.

I didn't have any other mishaps with the press since the encounter back in August. Apparently they figured I wasn't there and moved on. It was a major relief.

We got there early and had a pancake breakfast at the local fire station. The pancakes were surprisingly good. Our bellies so full it felt like they were filled with lead, we soldiered on to look at arts and craft booths and listen to local bands. We tried our hand at pumpkin bowling where I managed to get a strike. I bought a thick hand knitted scarf in a rusty red that matched my boiled wool jacket.
