Chapter 16: An Unexpected Visitor

I reported for work in Buffalo, Minnesota. The first episode in the series had my character Lucille moving to town into the house she inherited from her late aunt. Quirky neighbors welcomed her with housewarming gifts and she applied for a job at the local bar as a waitress. She encountered all of the show's main characters including Sheriff Tom Bradley, Cromwell Diggins the town drunk, her neighbor an eccentric old lady named Betsy Harper; Howard Carlson who owned the bar where she worked and his wife Donna who was having an affair with the local undertaker Jeff Anderson, and Gene/Gina Davis who was the town's transvestite. The bar had live music on weekends so the show featured some well known musicians posing as local bar bands. The bar had karaoke twice a week and a slew of other odd characters were introduced as karaoke singers including Chris Johnson, a young gay man, and Sharon Christianson, a middle aged homely chubby woman with an amazing singing voice. The show had everything: smart ass kids, crazy but hilarious old people, illicit affairs and sexless lonely people, and great music.

It was a fun show to work on, the cast had great rapport. We were funny, friendly, and self-effacing. Nobody had a big ego or a penchant for bitching. It was wonderful.

I wasn't the only big name on the show. The actor who played Sheriff Tom Bradley once had the star power of Bruce Willis but a dope habit ...
