Vixen: A Christmas Story

Randi Boucher stuck a handful of quarters in the jukebox and started selecting songs. She was alone in the restaurant, ready to clean up for the night. The jukebox was packed with Christmas songs from old classics to more rockin' tunes to keep her company.

She closed early because not many people wanted to spend Christmas Eve at Kat's Kafe. Kat's was the local greasy spoon, popular with the breakfast and lunch crowd and shoppers at the big sporting goods and home improvement stores down the road. It wasn't a big place with booths along the walls and a smattering of a dozen tables and a counter with a dozen stools. Not much had changed when the restaurant was first opened in the ‘40s. There was knotty pine paneling on the walls, orange vinyl booths, wooden chairs and Formica topped tables. The walls were filled with photos of customers holding their biggest catches from the nearby lake and river. A few prized taxidermy fish hung among the pictures including a forty-seven inch Muskie, a two foot long largemouth bass, and three crappies on driftwood.

Armed with a broom, the chairs turned upside down on the tables, she started to sweep the floor, dancing with the broom to AC/DC's "Mistress for Christmas".
