Sam's bright red Camero looked completely out of place along the curbless streets and small houses of her home town. It looked vaguely ridiculous in the gravel parking lot of Dom's Last Stop, a shabby looking bar on the very edge of town. It was a typical fall Friday night, which meant half the town was inside, as evident by the rows of shinny leased pickups and rusted out farm trucks.

After the bachelorette party, Sam didn't travel directly to her home town. Instead, she flew to her place in the city, retrieved her convertible, and made the five hour drive back. The car made no sense for a wedding weekend, and she knew it; she even had to ship all her bags.

She was just self-aware, and honest, enough to admit she wanted to rub her wedding weekend in a lot of faces.

Sam had never fit in well, in this tiny town. Her older sister, Tracy, whom she adored, was right at home. Hard working, salt of the earth, these were Tracy's people, Sam thought. By the time Sam was in high school, her parents were doing well enough to build their dream home out here in the middle of nowhere. They got to commute into the city to run their quickly growing empire, but Sam was left out here with the hicks.
