Brian and Melonie grew up next door to one another, on an idyllic street in Anywhere, USA. Born just a few days apart, neither could remember life without the other. The were best friends at age one, best friends through grade school, best friends all through high school, and best friends in college.

Inseparable, everyone had long accepted there was no romantic connection. They were closer that friends, closer than siblings, closer than close. When prom came along, they shared a limo with their dates. When they went to college, they made sure toe select neighboring dorms. They even shared an apartment with mutual friends.

As college faded into the night, and adulthood dawned, they couldn't imagine life without one another. That's why, when it came to search for jobs, they made the conscious decision to look in the same places. They could never be apart. They even hoped to live next to one another, once they finally settled down and married.

And so, it felt like serendipity when they both landed job interviews on the same day, in the same city. Better yet, it was in Las Vegas.

They packed together, booked their flights, and scheduled their interviews for Friday. Their families arranged for them to spend the weekend, after the interviews ended, as a kind of graduation gift. They couldn't have been more excited. ...
