Kelly walked into the kitchen, dropping her bag loudly on the table. The apartment felt so quiet and weird, where only twenty-four hours it had been bustling and loud.

All four of her roommates had left for the summer, and where her decision to stay had once felt defiant and independent, now it just felt lonely.

She made her way down the hall, towards her bedroom, her scrubs swishing in the silence. Kelly had decided to stay because she got a job at the hospital, and just like everything else over the past year, it felt like things were falling into place.
