I knocked on their door. "May I help you?"

"Hello, I'm Mallory McFadden Collinsworth-Brisbane. I live next door. Are you Mrs. Pickens?"

"Yes, I'm Hannah Pickens. Come in. The Colonel isn't home. Coffee?"

"That would be nice, thank you."

Hannah Pickens was a woman about Martha's age, in her early sixties. Unlike Martha, her hair was grey, although she seemed in good shape and walked with an athletic stride.

After she served coffee. "Miss Collinsworth-Brisbane was there something particular on your mind?"

"We've heard a rumor that you might be putting your lovely property up for sale."

"The Colonel and I have heard those rumors, too. I'm not sure where they came from. We haven't discussed it."

"Oh. I'm sorry to have intruded. I didn't mean . . ."

"No, no, it's okay. While you're here, why don't I show you around? If we should ever decide to put it on the market, you'll have a head start."

She took me out to the deck and patio with that spectacular view of the lake. "Oh, Mrs. Pickens, this is a million-dollar view."

"Please call me Hannah. And you're not a very good negotiator Miss Collinsworth-Brisbane. You should have called it a thousand-dollar view."

We laughed, "yes, well, I am new at this. And Hannah, please call me Mallory."

We walked around. The property was partially wooded, and partially well-kept gardens. From nowhere we came upon a gorgeous hidden pool. "Hannah, this is beautiful and secluded."

"I shouldn't say this or admit it at my age, but I love to skinny dip here," she laughed.

"Oh. how scandalous," I joked.

"Come with me."
