I forgot to ask the messenger how he found me, but what I did do was skip the rest of my classes and go home to get ready for my big date. Was it really a date?

I mean Declan was here for his 40th high school reunion. That means he was probably fifty-eight. I was nineteen.

Dublin was only a short bus ride from Omaha. I checked the schedule. I could catch the bus at 5:15. I made sure to check, the last bus back to Dublin left Omaha at 11:20.

While I took a long, hot bath, I thought of what to wear. I'm a farm girl, I don't do sexy and I don't have a big wardrobe. I ended up wearing a nice dress; one of the two store-bought ones I owned, and which buttoned almost up to my neck and came well below my knees. It was stylish for the times.

Mom and dad were working the farm. I left them a note that I'd be home late.
