It was the early 1970s and the single, never married school teachers were getting ready for another school year. All four were in their 50's and had been teaching together for over 30 years.

As they sat around, it occurred to Constance Turpin that life was passing them by. "Ladies, the sexual revolution, whatever that is, has passed us by."

"I don't think I've missed anything," said Gladys Hartigan. "but apparently some of my female students are right in the middle of it."

"I know what you mean. I can't mention any names, but there are dozens and dozens of girls on the Pill," Nurse Alicia Willis interjected.

"I won't be needing anything like that," laughed Fran McComber.

"None of us will," Constance interrupted. "Not because we're not sexually active but because we're too old."

"Both can be true," laughed the nurse.

The truth was they were all post-menopausal. The other truth was except for Nurse Willis they were all virgins. The Nurse still regretted that one drunken night while in nursing school when she allowed a boy to go farther than she intended.

It was Gladys who blurted out what she was certain the others were thinking, "Ladies, I don't want to die a virgin."

There were murmurs and whispers all around. They seemed to agree with Gladys, but how? None of them had dated since their college years. On those few dates there was some kissing and once or twice all four of them felt a boy's hand on their breasts. They quickly pushed it away.

Constance spoke loudly, "Here's what I suggest. Next summer we should rent a four-bedroom house."

"Where?"

"I don't know, but it should be some place where there are lots and lots of men."

"Do you think they'll even look twice at women our age?"

"I don't know, but I'm not comfortable parading around in a swimsuit," Fran added.

"Me neither, but by next summer, I'm going to look good in a two-piece," Nurse Alicia said. "Ladies, diet and exercise. Diet and exercise."

They joined the Y and started researching where they might find single men who might be interested in women like them.

Over the school year they threw out various names and locations. For one reason or another they dismissed them.

Finally, during Spring Break, they came up with the name Sierra. A small island off the coast of Naples, Italy not far from Capri. "Lots and lots of men. It says here that in the summer there are six men to every woman. Even old ladies like us might find some male companionship," Constance read in some woman's magazine.

Gladys Hartigan excused herself for a few minutes to use the bathroom in Fran McComber's home. When she came back she was modelling the new two-piece bikini she'd just bought.

"Oh Fran. You look stunning."

"Not bad for an old lady," she giggled.

Two weeks later, Constance, Nurse Alicia and Fran all showed off their new swim wear. To be honest, they all looked great. They all looked great for women their age. "Hey, ladies, maybe Sierra isn't a good idea."
