Part 1 This is written from an English perspective about College fun in the USA. The author has spent considerable time in the USA since the 1980's both on business and vacations, so has a good, but not perfect, level of understanding and experience of the country. Pete descended the steps of the plane at the small airport in rural Georgia. It was two weeks before the end of the summer term before he went off to University in the autumn back in England. He had been awarded a scholarship from his private school for a summer business internship in the USA which included spending the last two weeks of the summer term at an exchange school there.

It was late June and the air was hot and humid as he walked towards the small terminal building. Ahead in the baggage hall was a big sign with two flags, one British and one American with big words welcoming him. Around the sign were clustered his host family. Pete was staying with the Buckson family for the next two weeks and attending Brenton College along with their son Judd every day.
