Like I said, I didn't have any interest in dating. "I wouldn't know how to act on a date," I complained to my friend Cathy.

"Just be yourself. If you let guys know you're available, they'll be all over you."

"I don't want guys all over me." I was thinking on top of me. I wasn't ready for that. As for my enjoyment of blowjobs; Karl had been the only one, and I had no desire to try that with another man. I'd be so embarrassed if a man I hardly knew discovered that I was highly accomplished. Karl said I was highly accomplished and I'd had years and years of practice.

I was doing well in real estate, and Karl left me financially secure.

Most Sundays I showed a home or condo. Once, and on occasion if I'd been really lucky twice a month I'd attend a closing. That meant a pay day and I'd splurge on a spa day, a fancy meal (sadly alone or with girlfriends like Cathy) or nice clothes.

One Sunday, I was showing a condo and a man, perhaps a few years younger than me, came to the open house and looked around. He seemed interested, but didn't make an offer. I was used to this, and not disappointed. In fact, someone else did make an offer on that condo.

However, Tuesday, I was in the office when the phone rang, "Hi, I'm Jerry Conklin, I looked at a condo on Sunday. Is this Lily?"

"I'm Lily, I'm sorry Mr. Conklin, but I have a pending offer on that condo. However, we do have some others in our inventory that I'll be glad to show you."

"That's very kind of you, but the reason I called was because I wonder if you'd have dinner with me Friday night?"

My heart skipped a beat. "I-I-I don't know what to say. I don't date clients. In fact, Mr. Conklin, I don't date at all."

"I'm sorry, you're married. I should have asked."

"Not married. Widowed. I haven't been on a date in over thirty years."

"My apologies on your loss. I left my number in the guest book at the condo. If you decide to start dating again, please give me a call."

"That's very kind of you Mr. Conklin. I'm flattered. Let me know if I can show you a property. We have some very nice condos, townhomes, single-family homes."

"Thank you, Lily. I'll consider it."

I couldn't call my friend Cathy fast enough. I told her what happened. "And you turned him down? Was he old? Not good looking? What?"

"None of the above. I barely remember what he looks like. There was a lot of traffic at that condo."

"Here's what you're going to do. You're going to call this guy right back, and tell him you've reconsidered. Then tonight, we're going shopping."

"I can't do that."

"Yes, you can or you can give me his number and I'll call him and tell him that my friend Lily is very shy, but she'd love to have dinner with you."

Cathy talked me into it, and as for Jerry: "Lily, I'm so pleased that you called. "Do you like Italian food or are you a steak and potatoes gal?"

"I love Italian."

Great. I know just the place. I'll make a reservation for seven and pick you up at 6:30."
