Chapter 11 – The Sister
The next day, Alex's sister dropped by the restaurant where Matthew was working with a basket of freshly-baked goods. Sara’s smile stopped him in his tracks.
"Matt, I made these for you and your mom."
"Thanks, Sara. That’s sweet of you."
"Actually, I should be thanking you for coming over last night."
"How … did you know?"
"I saw you climb through the window. My brother hasn't been himself for a long time, but he seemed much better this morning."
"Then I should have come over sooner."
"I know you've been busy."
"Sara, what happened to Alex while I was away?"
Sara hesitated. "I think it’s better if he tells you himself, when he’s ready to talk about it."
"I understand. I'm sorry I wasn't there for you guys."
"Don’t say that. You've always been good to us."
When Matthew took the basket, Sara noticed the cut on hand.
"What happened to your hand?"
"Nothing. It's not a big deal."
While Sara inspected his hand, Matthew gazed at her and smiled.
Then, out of nowhere, tears began to run down Sara’s face. Matthew instinctively wrapped his arms around Sara to comfort her. As a result, she nestled into his chest and began to sob.
"Matt, I love my brother."
"I know, me too. Now that I'm here, no one is gonna hurt him."
In her moment of weakness, Sara looked up and felt reassured, like her big brother was holding her, except … it wasn’t her big brother and the guy holding her was much cuter. Then her lips somehow brushed up against Matthew’s, and she decided to press her luck and go for broke.
What began as a soft kiss grew into a passionate duel, one set of lips outdoing the other. Sara closed in on his lower lip and wouldn’t let go. Then she caught Matthew’s tongue and wouldn’t let go. For a moment it felt right, yet it was so wrong!
Sara had been attracted to Matthew her whole life. In the past, whenever he came over to play basketball with her brother, she and her girlfriends would stare at his sweaty, shirtless torso.
Although he enjoyed the kiss, Matthew eventually realized how wrong it was and immediately broke contact.
"I'm sorry … I shouldn't have taken advantage of you."
"You didn't."
Sara licked her lips, savoring the kiss that she just had with the boy of her dreams.
"Sara, I think you should go."
