Lori was the first to see the cabin. It was offset, back in the woods, covered with the new fallen snow. If there were leaves on the trees the cabin could not be seen from the road. The area was completely deserted. Lori was sure that just she and the two high school students with her, were the only people in this wood. They were there only because they were lost. It all started earlier that day. Lori had helped load the students of the high school ski club onto the bus. She had helped with their luggage and when the bus was loaded it departed with her standing on the curb waving goodby. She had wished the students a good time but she was not sorry that she wasn't joining them for the weekend of skiing. For one thing she hated skiing, she disliked snow and after this current school year she was returning to her home state of Florida where she didn't have to worry about snow.

She was in her second year of teaching and her second and last year of her marriage. The divorce was final. She had caught her husband, and only lover that she had ever known, cheating on her. It wasn't the first time she caught him, but this time she took action and split from him. Lori loved the kids she taught but really didn't like the northeast weather. Just after the bus departed, two of her students came running with bags of ski clothing under their arms, shouting and waving at the bus. But it was to no avail, the bus driver didn't see them and continued driving away from the small town curb where Lori stood. The two young men, were upset about missing the bus.
