ICE STORM

Alexis sat at home looking out the window. The weather had gone from bad to worse in the last several days. It had all started off as light freezing rain. This seems to be a fairly common occurrence here in Canada, however this week was much different. The freezing rain had continued and the build up of ice was beginning to show on everything outside. What started off looking quite pretty was quickly turning ugly. As she sat there looking outside, there was an eerie calm that had fallen over the city. One could hear the tree branches cracking under the weight of the ice that had built up on them. There was barely anyone on the streets for the roads were in no condition to drive.

She turned to catch the weather forecast on T.V. The announcer said that things did not look good for the area. The freezing rain had been predicted to continue at least for another couple of days. A severe weather warning remained in effect. People were being advised to stay at home unless it was absolutely necessary for them to go out. Power outages had been reported in neighboring cities and it appeared that the same could easily happen here.

Of all times to have a power outage she thought. The middle of the winter was not a good time. January had to be one of the coldest months here. She was at least thankful that she had rented this place. ...
