The Waterfall

I was standing on a secluded bridge overlooking the beautiful crystal waters of an outback rock pool, thinking about life and all the missed opportunities I'd had. The rock pool curled away around a rocky outcrop out of my line of sight. I then noticed an overgrown path leading out around the rocks following the course of the rock pool. I decided to go for a walk and discover what was along the path.

The growth along the path became thicker as I pushed my way along the track. Before long I caught the sound of a soft trickle of water cascading over the rocks. It seemed to be coming from an area of the rock pool that I could not as yet see. I picked my way further around the edge of the pool and eventually I was able to see the source of the sound I'd heard. A beautiful little waterfall launched over the rocks from a point high above and dropped down like fine summer rain into the water below.

It was then that I noticed the irregular ripples coming from somewhere near the bank farthest away from me and then, like the picture from some storybook, I saw a figure swimming out towards the rocks where the waterfall landed. She looked about my age, slim and tanned and wearing a little yellow bikini. She had not seen me yet so I decided to just hide and watch this lovely little thing swimming so effortlessly through the clear water. ...
