"Look, sweetheart, do whatever you have to do to make Cole's birthday party memorable." My husband suggested as he finished packing his traveling overnight bag.

My husband's recently divorced best friend, Cole, a hunk who'd been boarding with us for a while, had resigned himself to spending his birthday alone. To make matters worse, my own Arthur, who had been planning Cole's birthday celebration, was called out of town the day before to help track down an odd energy drainage cutting into the state's largest electrical power grid.

"Invite some interesting guests or something. I should be back in two or three days." Arthur, an electrical engineer, was being optimistic. That power grid covered hundreds of square miles and Cole, the technician, was equally disappointed at missing out on his chance to pick up some overtime, travel pay, and a chance to go out on the prowl for a few nights.

"Shit, I can have a birthday party any time," Cole said. "How often do we get to chase an electrical UFO?"

Arthur grimaced. "Knock that stuff off. That was just some crank sighting. It'll probably turn out to be some nest of squirrels or ...
