Tom adjusted the volume on his Walkman to drown out the sounds of the cars passing him on the road. The up-tempo music willed his legs to push the bike just that little bit faster. Ever since he’d bothered to fix his bike and use it, he’d noticed a huge improvement in not only his overall fitness, but general body tone as well. Not a bad thing at all – girls would far rather meet someone with a nice toned body than a lazy slob with a beer gut.

Tom was on his way to Chloe’s house. She lived about 15 miles out of town, and as he was staying the night, he decided to throw some clothes into a bag and cycle there. Chances are, Chloe would let him use her shower – after all, with this great weather, he was going to be rather hot and sweaty by the time he arrived, and the other guests wouldn’t be too impressed with that, would they?

Tom had planned ahead, and phoned Chloe earlier, asking her to pick up some beers from the liquor store explaining that he was cycling down and didn’t want the extra burden. Luckily, Chloe hadn’t been to the store yet, and agreed to pick up some beers for him.

Glancing at his watch, Tom calculated that he’d arrive at Chloe’s right on time, giving him a few hours to shower and give Chloe a hand setting up for the party. Well, maybe party was too grand a word for it; just a gathering of friends would be more appropriate.
