She Had To Wear Those Boots

The meeting seemed to drag on forever. One of those mandatory new corporate directives forcing all employees to understand that the work place is a diverse environment and everyone needs to get along. So there I sat, fighting back the building urge to rip my fingernails directly from the thin skin that held them in place. God, could this get any worse?

I looked around at the mix of people in the class and immediately got the feeling that I was not alone in my sense of torture. I am a manager with the firm so I couldn’t just get up and leave without committing career suicide so I was going to have to endure the whole class. I tried doodling on the notepad provided, but the monotone voice of the dry instructor cut through my every thought. I decided to try and follow along in the handout. Might as well try and get something out of the class, I thought as I found the page the instructor was highlighting with his Power Point presentation.

Suddenly the accounting guy sitting next to me passed me a note, “Look at Leslie,” it read.
