Chapter One - The Encounter

The summer rainstorm hit early that evening, painting the cobblestone streets of town shiny and fluorescent, the neon signs doubly piercing the steamy evening. The young couple dashed and dodged here and there, seeking shelter under tattered awnings and ornate wrought-iron balconies along the mostly deserted street, laughing at the refreshing raindrops soaking them to the skin as he chivalrously tried sheltering her under his soaked dinner jacket.

"Let's try here" she said, laughing at his attempts to keep her sheltered, any dry shelter from the storm a welcome one at the moment.

She dashed towards the open door of the shop, him following her close behind. Upon reaching the dry shelter of the shop, she stopped and turned to him, not realizing how close he was. His arms instinctively wrapped around her as their bodies collided, barely avoiding sprawling all over the floor.

It took a moment to catch their breaths, but, arms around each other, dripping just inside the door of the shop, as the smiles grew to a giggle, to a chuckle, to whole-hearted laughter. Something about him had captivated her, touched her, and held her with his manners and ...
