When the average American imagines what bus trip through a Latin American country is like they probably conjure up images of an over-crowded and over-heated, beat up yellow school buss full of peasants carrying chickens under their arms... And while those buses DO exist, the vast majority are surprisingly air conditioned, with big comfy seats, on board bathrooms and even a movie to watch... granted, the movie is almost always some god awful action movie that flopped in the US and has now been dubbed over in laughable Spanish, but still, as far as bus trips go the Latin American trips are a pretty good experience. Best of all, a first class ticket to get you on one of these luxury buses is cheap; so cheap in fact that it would be silly to not pay for the best available. Only the poorest of the poor find themselves stepping onto one of those stereotypical chicken buses.

Interestingly enough, this bus experience is for the most part, pretty much universal across all of Latin America... I've traveled on buses throughout Mexico and Central America and it's basically all the same... Nice and cool, comfy, useable bathrooms, and Sylvester Stallone shooting people up as you ride along to your destination.

So when I found myself looking for a comfortable was to travel around in the Dominican Republic without busting my broke-college student budget, I already knew the best answer... Buses!
